Event Type

Our final talk of the year will be ‘The Three Sieges of Pontefract Castle’, when Civil War historian David Cooke will join us.

Oliver Cromwell once said that Pontefract Castle was ‘one of the strongest inland garrisons in the kingdom… and very difficult to mine’. Throughout the Civil War, Pontefract would play a key role in the struggle for supremacy in Yorkshire and the North of England. Join us to learn about the three key sieges of Pontefract Castle and why Pontefract would be the last Royalist stronghold to fall, months after the execution of King Charles I.

Tickets for this event are £3 per person, which goes towards the upkeep of the castle. Places can be booked via the staff at Pontefract Castle.

Doors open at 1:30 pm for a 2:00 pm start.  The talk will last about an hour, with time for questions afterwards.

See you there!
