This Day in History: 1461-03-30
On 30th March 1461, Edward IV arrived at York following the Battle of Towton and had the rotting heads of his father Richard and brother Edmund and the Earl of Salisbury removed from Micklegate Bar and taken to be interred reverently at St Richard’s Friary in Pontefract with the rest of their bodies. The friary was situated in the present day Valley Gardens.
