    This Day in History: 1540-07-28

On 28th July 1540, Catherine Howard married Henry VIII, nineteen days after Anne of Cleves’ marriage was annulled and on the same day as the execution of Thomas Cromwell for high treason. Catherine was first cousin to Anne Boleyn and had been a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Cleves. Later in the marriage, Henry found out about Catherine’s purported infidelity while the court was staying at Pontefract Castle.
