This Day in History: 1485-03-09
On 9th March 1485, a warrant was made to deliver clothing to ‘the Lord Bastard’, John of Pountfreit/Pontefract (sometimes called ‘of Gloucester’), known illegitimate son of Richard III (or Duke of Gloucester at the child’s conception). It has been surmised that Richard’s mistress was Alice Burgh, a nurse, who was also given an allowance to look after Edward of Warwick, Richard III’s nephew by his murdered brother, George, Duke of Clarence.
