This Day in History: 1307-03-01

Only four months before Edward 1 died at Burgh-by-Sands in July 1307, he pardoned his nephew, Henry of Lancaster, brother to Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, lord of Pontefract, who was to succeed to Thomas’s lands and titles some years after Thomas’s execution. The pardon related to Henry having helped a man called John Harper to escape from prison in Gloucestershire and afterwards receive him.
