Wakefield Medieval Day
Thanks to everyone from the Battlefields Trust and Boroughbridge Historical Society who came on our Wakefield Medieval Day yesterday. It was great to see so many of you and we would like to thank you all for the great feedback you provided us with on how much you had enjoyed the event. Thanks to Richard Atkinson for providing such an entertaining talk on the history of the Chantry Chapel in the afternoon, and to all the staff at Sandal Castle cafe for providing such excellent service over lunch. We hope to see you all again soon.
Sandal Castle Tour Saturday April 22nd.
On Saturday 22nd April, we will be delivering a tour/talk at Sandal Castle to thirty plus members of the Battlefield Trust and the Boroughbridge Historical Society. The tour will cover the origins of the castle as well as focusing heavily on the Wars of the Roses and especially the Battle of Wakefield, including the various theories around why Richard Duke of York left his castle when so heavily outnumbered, which would then lead to his death on the battlefield. If you would like to arrange a similar free tour/talk at the castle, then please do get in touch via the ‘Contact Us’ button on the ‘Welcome” page of this website. We would be only to glad to meet with you and share the castles fascinating story.
